Camp for 2022 is very close to Austin, Texas – about an hour away. From San Antonio its only about 90 minutes. So either airport is totally fine. We had a good time in both cities, so if you are looking for a night to let off some steam after you fly in or before you fly home, you can’t go wrong with either!
Tips for flying!
- I live by my mileage card. If you don’t have one yet, consider getting one and using it for all your business expenses. It makes it easy to tally up what you spend on business. These cards usually come with a fantastic bonus of miles which actually could cover you trip to Austin. ALSO – your mileage card typically will come with FREE checked luggage for the airline it represents. We have a few cards for different airlines because they come with a companion fare (which covers the yearly fee) and we get free checked bags when we travel. This is usually worth $30 EACH WAY!! For camp, there is NO WAY you can come with just a carry on, your swag bag alone would fill it. So you need to be able to check a bag. Having a card from an airline will give you $60 just for camp.
- Use a program that searches many airlines for the best price. I like to use Expedia or Google Travel. With Google Travel, it will show you the best flights, but then click on “SHOW ALL FLIGHTS” to see all of them.
- Fly in Thursday, Fly out Tuesday. If possible, come the day before camp. It’s always nice to get a good night sleep before the weekend as I can guarantee you will be so busy, lots of sleep is a luxury. If you come earlier in the day this gives you time to check out live music in Austin or the River Walk in San Antonio (depending on where you fly into). Monday there are full day workshops, but there are usually a few options if you need to leave early. I would recommend getting a flight no less than 3 hours after your class is supposed to end (if you are flying into Austin). No less than 4 hours after your class if you are flying into San Antonio. Typically this ends up ruling out Monday flights if you want to take a class Monday.
